ABOUT HOPE, AK

Hope is a historic mining town, founded in the late 1800's. The discovery of gold in Six Mile Creek set off one of Alaska's first gold rushes. Within a year, more than 3,000 miners settled in the area.

Hope, Alaska hasn't changed much since the gold rush ended. Today, Hope is a quiet and historic trip back through time. Hope is what visitors to Alaska envision the state to look like - mountain views, wooded surroundings, log cabins, unique cafes and friendly people. The year round population is anywhere between 150 and 250, depending on who you ask. The Hope School is K-12, and it has about 15 children.

The natural area provides an epic place for outdoor enthusiasts to travel year round. Rafting, fishing, hiking, skiing and more. We ask those visiting Hope to acknowledge our historical and natural significance and go out of your way to respect the land and community. Pick up trash, even if its not yours, respect private property, drive slowly in town, and perhaps donate to a local cause to help support keeping Hope a clean, beautiful and one-of-a-kind Alaska town!

Hope. Small Town. Big Adventure.
